A.I.T.

Every time we get together, we make the world a little better...

Drop us a note

A.I.T. follows
 Amnesty International USA
in the fight against all violations of human rights.

How?  Let us count the ways...

Once a month or so (usually on a Sunday afternoon - check the AIT Calendar for upcoming meeting details), we have a "Lunch and Liberate" meeting, which we sometimes call our "Food Fight for Human Rights"!  At our meetings, we do many things.

We often have guest speakers and videos or other educational materials.  We learn about Human Rights issues (including a report on "What's Hot" in human rights, right now).  We sign letters and petitions and send those off to government officials and heads of state, or to tyrannical government leaders, pushing them for change; shining a light on human rights violations.  We do photo actions. We contact legislators and write to newspapers.  We send letters of support to "prisoners of conscience" - those imprisoned anywhere in the world for peaceably speaking out their opinions or demonstrating against their government and human rights violations.

We believe everyone is entitled to basic human rights, as listed in the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights".  So we work hard to raise awareness, and to move the world a little bit, in a better direction.

At the same time, we think enjoying a beer and having a great lunch together with like-minded people is a good way to work on such tough issues!  We're serious, but we're not delirious!  We meet at cool neighborhood places like Nello's Pizza or Boulders on Broadway, in Tempe.

But, as a well-known cat would say ...that is not all we do, no, no - that is not ALL!

In addition, we host special events and co-sponsor others.  We run a Winter "Write-A-Thon" in which we've produced THOUSANDS of human rights "action" letters.  We participate in an annual human rights film festival, the Spring "Local to Global Education" event at ASU, and we each Fall we host our signature "Localpalooza for Human Rights!" multiple-band concert to raise awareness of our organization and our cause.

So there's something for everyone, and there is always lots to do.  You can just come to our lunch meetings and learn, or get more involved, if you are so moved.  We encourage creativity - you can share any ideas you have with us.  And if you would like to  "shine a light" on a particular burning human rights issue, you can even volunteer to lead and present at a meeting!  Our chapter coordinator will help you through the process.

Come to a meeting and visit.  We're always happy to see new faces!
